Pier 3 residents have actively participated in the planning phases of the redevelopment of the Delaware River Waterfront. After all, it's our neighborhood, and we want it to be the best place to live in Philadelphia. It's very exciting to see the City of Philadelphia work with professional civic planners to help the Waterfront achieve its potential.
The first project to get off the starting block is the Race Street Pier. This was known as Pier 11, and it is very close to Pier 3. Many of our residents participated in the forums where the public could provide input to the design.
The concept for the park on the Race Street Pier was presented by the developers in early 2010 and was enhanced based on public feedback in April. This design, known as "The Slice", was preferred by the many participants because it provides the public with unique multi-leveled areas to walk, relax and generally enjoy the Delaware River.
We eagerly await its completion in 2011.
